This Precious Life

When I was young, I read a story about a very smart general and his strategy to overthrow a kingdom that’s much more powerful than his own. He convinced his gruff army men to drop their weapons and pose as sweet and gentle animal lovers. Now that they are disguised, he sent them into the enemy kingdom where they would pick up a tiny little kitten, purr into its ears, stroke the underside of its chin and when no one was looking, get a glint in their eye as they shove the poor creature into a cage to bring back out. After a week or so, the general’s army was able to count a massive number of beloved pets from the neighbouring kingdom with them.

The general brought these pets to as near the enemy kingdom as possible, poured kerosene over them and set them on fire. The animals panicked of course, and once the cages were opened, dashed towards home. As they ran through their own home i.e. the enemy kingdom, they inevitably set many wooden homes and towers on fire. Almost the entire enemy kingdom went up in flames. Soldiers were spent fighting fires. Citizens died from the incident. Thus, the enemy kingdom was easily conquered.

So I read the news that the company that gave us Crocs sandals is in financial trouble as the shoes they’ve made are so long-lasting, very few would buy a second pair. Well, well do I have a strategy that will work wonders for Chief Executive John Duerden. In 3 words:

Unleash the Animals.
