Who is starving now?
You know how it feels when you’re eating in front of the television and all of a sudden, the newsreader cuts to a video of your fellow human beings facing strife in a country far away? You get a gulp in your throat and the food starts to taste like wet cotton in your mouth and tears uncontrollably spring to your eyes.
I have been feeling a lot like that lately.

The melancholic emotion especially well up whenever I am eating my lunch.

I keep feeling as though someone out there is in desperate need of the nutrition from my lunch and if I don’t give it just a teeny-weeny bite, it will immediately faint and die.

I feel as though an opportunity to serve the poorest of the poor is constantly staring at me in the eyes.

And that I if I don’t give away all my precious possessions – all my lunches and shoes and handbags and jewelry and clothes, I will miss the opportunity to fulfil my purpose in life.

So I surrender it all. Better that than to be slowly killed by a guilty conscience which weighs about 7 kilograms.
