Precious is without a bed

Thanks to the Blockbuster Home Renovation, Precious lost all the furniture and fittings in her room. All she has left are the glaring windows and the cold marble floor.

The Best of the Best of the Best Japanese Food In Kuala Lumpur

Aoyama Japanese Restaurant Address
Last Monday, Nic and I traveled north for three days. The first night, we stopped at Melaka for dinner on the way. The second night, we were blessed with dinner at our favourite Japanese restaurant in the whole wide world!

We were first introduced to Aoyama by Chris of Geek Terminal who is a die-hard Japanese food connoisseur some time last year. aoyama-tofu.jpg
We learned from Chris that when you get here, you won’t even need to look at the menu. Just tell Chef Jovy you want his very best. The chef will ask you for a budget, you can expect him to floor you with a totally unexpected combination of flavors in every dish that he serves.

In fact, Chef Jovy enjoys it when you trustingly request for him to plan and serve your entire meal. He even took the liberty to serve only one portion of the larger and more filling dishes so that we have more room in our stomachs to try more variety of his foods.

Below: Chef Jovy’s twist to the traditional sushi. This dish got me speechless for a few seconds.

We oohed and aahed at how duck meat could be so tender

We snacked on vegetable fritters

One of Nic’s favorite japanese dish is garlic rice so even though Chef Jovy did not include it in our meal, we ordered it individually. Just look at the chunky dried garlic Chef Jovy sprinkled on for extra oomph!

We ate a few other indescribable dishes which I forgot to photograph. (Sorry!)

For dessert, we had Cherry Rum ice-cream which totally stole our hearts. If you haven’t been to Aoyama, I urge you to GO. You MUST make a trip here at least once in your lifetime.

It is not difficult to get here at all. If this map is not helpful enough, feel free to email me via my contact form or simply leave a comment here. It is my life’s mission to make sure you successfully get to Aoyama, I’ll be more than happy to help.

Yong Tau Foo to double in price?

Remember the sad lonely day when I had lunch alone? That day, a few friends nudged me on MSN just to scold me for posting a photo of my food! My  mouth-watering Yong Tau Foo made them hungry even though they’ve already eaten their lunch.

Today I received an email from Mimi,

most of the seafood price (dry or wet) will increase after April 1st!
heard that ‘yong tau fu’ will be affected the most as the sorimi (fish meat used to make fish balls) will increase up to 200%
so… eat ytf for these 2 days as much as u can.

Is this an April Fool’s joke?! Yong Tau Foo is very important to us, we can not allow this to happen! My dear readers, let me know if you know this news to be true.

Eating my Beauty Treatment

So I went for a facial and Renee recommended that I take an algae treatment. I like this idea since the most luxurious cream in the world, Creme de La Mer, is made of algae.

But a few days before, I had walked into a wholesale shop that supplies treatments to beauty parlors. The jars that I saw contained 0.05% algae and were labeled algae treatment. The rest of the ingredients were too dodgy for pronunciation.

Even though Renee’s shop front says “Dermalogica”, I have reasons to believe she does not use only Dermalogica products. True enough, at the end of the treatment, she recommended that I buy a new beauty product and it wasn’t Dermalogica. Worse, I read the label and found its secret moisturizing ingredient - Mineral Oil, slammed all over the internet for hurting more than helping baby soft skin.

I felt so frustrated. Why is it so difficult to get good beauty treatments with good algae over here? Ding Ding! Back home, I had a brilliant idea.

Since I can’t paste algae all over my face, why don’t I just swallow it?

Here’s my bottle of Spirulina. Arguably the world’s best algae for face and body. I feel brilliant.

Rumor Mongers in Malaysia

I received an email that claims these are photos of Istana Zakaria which was built by the late Datuk Zakaria Md Deros without approval from the local council.

Are these photos really of his home? My jaw dropped. What an ambitious man was the late Datuk Zakaria!

But after reviewing the photos, I grew skeptical. If this was really his home here, why can’t I find any local influence in its interior and exterior architecture? Don’t tell me the late Datuk Zakaria was ashamed of his Malaysian roots?

I started googling around for more pictures and found these taken by reporters of Istana Zakaria when they were invited there for last Hari Raya’s open house gathering.

Tell me, do these look like pictures of the same building, or different?

Why I’m still in Malaysia

Today is a slow day for work, so I went for a facial!

My beautician today is Renee, a lovely girl from Gajah Berang, Melaka. As she gently massaged my face with fragrant cream, Renee wanted to know, what stops me from moving to Singapore.

My instant reply? Accommodation.

Even though there are plenty of homes available in Singapore, it isn’t quite the same as staying in one with my own lush garden and my three scroungy dogs. I know that when I do move to Singapore, it will probably be for years, if not forever, so I’m in no hurry to get there right now.

I suppose finding apartments in Singapore is similar to finding apartments in any bustling city such as apartments in Chicago. The more developed the place, the less likely you’ll get a chance to stay in a suburban home with deep green lawn flanked with rose bushes.

At least in Singapore, I’ve heard it might be possible to find such homes in Sengkang or Seletar. For Chicago apartments however, you will need all the help you can get from Chicago apartment finders to get apartments Chicago IL at all.
