As a frequent traveler, I’ve gotten weary of carrying lots of stuff. The last time I shared room with another girl, she felt embarrassed that she’d brought twice the amount of luggage as me.
I don’t think she should feel embarrassed at all.
Even though I travel light, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having your stuff at hand and being prepared for every situation. There are times when traveling light can be a huge mistake.
When I left for a year in Melbourne, I had assumed I’ll be able to buy most things there. I brought one pair of shoes - the pair I was wearing to the airport, one pair of jeans - the pair I was wearing to the airport, a few blouses, some toiletries, lots of art equipment, that’s about it.
To my horror, after getting there, I discovered clothes in Australia are way too big. For example, the smallest size shoe in most shops is a 7, I’m a size 5. The smallest size blouse in most shops is an Australian S which is about an Asian M. I wear an XS back home.
It was the Size 14 at the children’s section in Target that saved me from having to buy the full busted lingerie to wear as normal clothes!
