How QingLing became a Hillary - the story of a dramatic transformation

Some time ago, a reader (who looks so much like my brother omigosh) asked me why I named myself Hillary. He guessed that that my Chinese-Malaysian parents wouldn’t have given me such a name as Hillary. He has a point, many older Chinese-Malaysians mispronounce it as Heererry or Heelily.

The name came about when I got into a technical sales job. Outside of the job, I don’t use the name Hillary all that much since I love my Chinese name, QingLing.

But one fine day, across the oceans from Malaysia, a woman named Hillary Clinton started campaigning to be the President of the United States of America. All of a sudden, the name Hillary became ultra-memorable.

One fine day, at a social gathering with a lot of new friends, I introduced myself as QingLing. My poor new friends struggled to recall what was that jingly name again. Amused, I mentioned, “You can also call me Hillary.”

At that very moment, it was as though the sky opened up. All around, faces shone brightly in relief. The name Hillary has kept on ever since.

When you have a name as lovely as Hillary or QingLing, it’s very easy to get your identity stolen. That is why AAA Pioneer Valley selects lifelock to provide identity theft protection to over 173,000 members.
