Sunday Sharing – Easter
What does Easter mean to you? Easter means a lot to God. It is the day that made his sacrifice worthwhile.
The few days leading to Easter had been the most solemn week of his life. Knowing that his time on earth is coming to an end, he did a few things. He made his disciples sit down and tenderly washed their feet. He served them bread and said, “This is my body, take and eat.” He handed them cups of wine and said, “This is my blood.”
I wonder what his disciples thought and felt when he did all these for them. They should have noticed these clues that something is about to happen to him but they didn’t seem to have realized it at all.
A few hours before he was arrested, he asked them to stay up all night and pray with him but they fell asleep. He prayed alone, “Abba, Father, all things are possible with you; get me out of this, but please, not what I want but what you want.”
When they saw Jesus dying on the cross, I wonder what they thought and felt. When they took down his body after he had breathed his last, I can not imagine the depth and breadth of their grief and guilt. Judas was so stricken that he killed himself.
How amazing and miraculous then that three days later on Easter Day, Jesus got up, unwrapped the burial cloth around himself and walked out of his tomb fully alive. How inconceivable, unfathomable and indescribable is that. It’s no wonder that at first, his followers didn’t believe Mary Magdalene when she told them what she saw.
What about you? Like his followers, you probably didn’t believe the news at first. What convinced you to change your mind? Do share in the comment section below.
