Rumor Mongers in Malaysia

I received an email that claims these are photos of Istana Zakaria which was built by the late Datuk Zakaria Md Deros without approval from the local council.

Are these photos really of his home? My jaw dropped. What an ambitious man was the late Datuk Zakaria!

But after reviewing the photos, I grew skeptical. If this was really his home here, why can’t I find any local influence in its interior and exterior architecture? Don’t tell me the late Datuk Zakaria was ashamed of his Malaysian roots?

I started googling around for more pictures and found these taken by reporters of Istana Zakaria when they were invited there for last Hari Raya’s open house gathering.

Tell me, do these look like pictures of the same building, or different?

    Zakaria fetes guests at mansion
    By NG SI HOOI
    Datuk Zakaria Md Deros
PORT Klang assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Md Deros opened his controversial mansion to the press for the first time on Tuesday ahead of the Hari Raya celebrations.
The outspoken politician took reporters on a tour of his home, which grabbed the nation’s attention last year as the building was put up without approval from the local council.
The mansion has 21 bathrooms and 16 bedrooms, where his 11 children would occupy one each.
Besides this, the mansion has a swimming pool, several gazebos, an orchard, a two-hole mini golf course, a VIP room, three living rooms, a prayer room, an office, a store room, two rooms for maids, a dining room, a wet kitchen and a dry kitchen. (etc )

Does anyone know the source or name of the first set? Please share, thanks!

  4. All the the interior designer and raw materials he imported from overseas. As you can see the designs are all westernized. Sad… all our taxpayer’s money ended paying for such luxuries when it can help ease the poor and oppressed people in Malaysia.
