Will it be intimidating?
Will I be discovered for the noob blogger that I am?
Will the conversation be peppered with dizzying keywords such as RSS, Page Rank, Monetize, Advertlets and Nuffnang?
In the end, I didn’t have time to worry because I was running late! By the time we got to the Singapore Indoor Stadium to cheer for Slingers at the National Baskerball League, Andy and Qiao Yun had been waiting at the Club Desk for a while. We quickly figured out the ticketing stuff and split to get to our seats.
Due to the *overwhelming response* to my blog contest, we took up two VIP boxes instead of one so Andy and I headed east while Nic and Qiao Yun headed west. When we got to our seats, we discovered the famous East Coast Life and her husband, Christopher. Xian Feng had also arrived but we only saw him later as he was in the “powder room” at the time.
The next thing I noted was the trays of food and drinks, yippee! We were lavished with three trays of food, two bottles of wine, lots of chilled Tiger Beer, and other canned drinks. For the first half of the game, I had to make the difficult decision between cheering for Slingers or munching on the food. Can you guess what I chose in the end?
Our corporate box was labelled “Air Asia” which thrilled me to the bones. I heard rumors that Air Asia CEO Tony Fernandez will be here today and since we were at his box, I wondered if he might casually saunter in and sit next to us. Nothing like that happened.
Instead, Adam Zhang, Daphne Maia and Arzhou joined our box. We are now in full-force to cheer and I didn’t dare reveal how imbalanced I was expecting the game to be.
I had assumed we would spend most of the game going, “DEFENCE! Clap Clap Clap! DEFENCE! Clap Clap Clap!” until we’re moodless to yell anymore but boy was I surprised.
You see, the last match I watched, the news report headlined it “Tigers [wayyy] too good for Slingers”. It was kinda embarassing. But this time, the gap was so narrow, I felt proud to be a Slingers fan. No doubt the Tigers still won but only by 9 points. The new headline on 19th October? “Slingers rue narrow Tigers loss”. What a close game!
The coach was interviewed and his analysis was that Mike Helms didn’t play at top form for the first three quarters of the game. What’s up Mike Helms? I too didn’t notice Mike until the end when he made some really stylish moves that totally impressed the crowd.
It seems that had Mike played his best from the very beginning, the Tigers might be flying back to Aussie with red faces. That means, this Sunday’s game against the New Zealand Breakers could get very interesting.
I am not embarrassed to admit I know almost nothing about basketball before we were invited for Slingers’ games. However the organizers did such a fab job in creating the atmosphere that I was sitting on the edge throughout. Just ask Andy, I think I almost deafened him with my screams.
Excitement was in the air thanks to the fun cheerleaders, background music (sounds a little like the Jaws soundtrack whenever the opposition got the ball), the persuasive MC, the freebies we get to try catch at half-time, the shooting contest, and many more. It was thoroughly planned.
I’m sure most of you didn’t come here to read my expert analysis on basketball though so here’s what you are really looking for. Our pics:-

This is Precious and Michael Wong. Don’t jealous okay, he’s the fittest Singaporean I’ve ever met

This is Ben Knight being interviewed by a MediaCorp journalist. I took a photo with him but he made me look so short it had to be censored. At least Michael Wong had the courtesy to bend his knees.
Can you tell Ben is a little disappointed to have lost the game? Actually none of the players were in the mood to photograph and autograph with us fans *huggg*

This is a big camera and Adam Zhang. I was also going to snap photos of the match being played but his camera made my camera feel so shy

This is an embarrassing over the top fan whom I caught on camera. Haha, just kidding. This is Andy Tay

That’s Nic, a really stunning beauty, Yen-Lu, East Coast Life, Xian Feng, Christopher and Andy

Xian Feng’s fierce look could scare Tigers away. He should have posed like this in the middle of the court before the game began.
Other bloggers who came and sat in Nic’s box were Imran, Sheylara, Andrew Peters of APLink, TheMediaSlut and Princess Sabrina. Mr Fong of Eat Your Maths was around but we didn’t get the chance to meet.
After the match, we drove to McDonalds for a chat where I was discovered for the noob blogger that I am, and the conversation was peppered with dizzying keywords such as RSS, Page Rank, Monetize, Advertlets and Nuffnang, lol!

Adam: whoever says size is not important is telling a lie. Everybody knows the bigger your camera, the more powder.
Win: My psychic who blogs at http://highwayoflife.wordpress.com told me you were there
Daph: Love your post. Will definitely catch up with you for more freebies. haha!
