My Detox Experience

Nic’s Mum is a health nut and so am I, but she’s a bit more nutty than I am. A few times now, she’s invited me to flush my colon with a glass of Melilea powdered beverage. If you haven’t tried it before, Meliliea is a green drink distributed by an MLM company over here. Here’s how a formidable bottle looks.

Inside every bottle is 458 grams of green powder. When something tastes this horrid, 458grams takes forever to complete. This bottle has been in the kitchen for more than a year and there’s still a quarter of it left!

The green powder inside a bottle of Melilea

With Nic’s Mum’s encouragement, I greet it early in the morning and mix two scoops with water. Now you know why I’m not a morning person.

A tall glass of Melilea. Yum!

After mixing it with water, the green powder turns to thick green goo. The drink is so filling, it replaces any potentially delicious breakfasts.

Me bravely gulping down a tall glass of Melilea

Here’s me downing a glass of Melilea. It’s bottom’s up all the way because you don’t want to stop and let the taste linger. In fact, you might want to gargle with Listerine twice when you’re done with it.

I have to admit even though it is a yucky drink, it is genuinely effective in colon cleanse. Try it, I’m sure you’ll be smiling at your toilet bowl within hours.

The problem I have with Melilea (which started in Melaka, Malaysia BTW) is that they claim to be developed and the ingredients grown/made in the US. Some of the distributors also claim they have been there before. But after some rigorous Googling, this “American” company on the label seems to be some sort of shell company - don’t think it has a long history or even exists in the first place. The registered address is also suspect!

To me, that’s a form of deception. And I feel cheated. Because they are charging much more for this stuff.

For my mom, it stopped working after a month. And also, some Googling will also tell you other laxatives (that’s basically what Melilea is) cost much less and is more natural, like psyllium husk. This is available at any organic store for much much cheaper.

Oh, that’s interesting to know. Quite a number of local companies seem to use an American address as a shell. I’ve tried psyllium husk, unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work for me.

Wendy, Melilea is not for those with a sharp sense of taste. I wanted to make a glass for Nic but his Mum was like “No! Don’t! It will go to waste! Don’t!”
