Going to the home of Master Wong Fei Hong, my Kung Fu Hero.
Next week, I will be traveling to Guang Dong via Air Asia to visit the hometown of my childhood martial arts hero, Wong Fei Hong. If you are Chinese like me, I’m sure you have heard of him. Wong Fei Hong’s father was one of the legendary Ten Tigers of Canton, a group of the South China’s top ten kungfu masters who were directly connected to the Southern Shaolin Monastery. He himself was known as the Tiger after the Ten Tigers…
After watching Once Upon a Time in China I, II, III, IV, and V, my brother and I relentlessly practiced his famous Shadowless Kick on each other. It was purportedly such a fast and powerful front kick that even its shadow can not be seen. I was very poor at it though, my brother was often able to catch my leg with his hands, which left me hopping on one foot. :P
Wong Fei Hong was such an inspiration that a famous Chinese composer wrote a classical ensemble about him. It was named “A Man Should Strive to be Stronger” but later renamed “Man of Determination.” The song is easily recognizable by any of his fans as it was the theme song for all the Once Upon a Time in China movies.
If you have ever wished you can sing this song, here’s your chance to practice with the video below.
I dare you to record a video of yourself singing this with passion and enthusiasm. Hehehhe.

Wow, u r becoming a big fan of Wong Fei Hong already. Remind me to tell you one of his most well known kick call “mou ying keok” – A kick that will hit the opponent without the opponent knowing or seeing the kick coming…
I know the Mo Yeng Keok move very well. Ah Kor practiced it on me on a lot. Haha.
