How we may end up with two maids come October
Suzana, our Indonesian maid of six years decided to leave after the doctor saw a cystic fibrosis in her womb. It would have been a simple procedure to remove that at a nearby hospital but Suzana was adamant that her village healer would be able to fix her up with herbs. It was sad to see her leave and it was hard to understand the logic of her thinking. Needless to say, Mother was more than a little disappointed.
What’s more, Suzana had secretly confessed to the neighbour that she won’t be coming back to us. But even after sending her off, Mother kept her hopes up and waited for Suzana’s return. In the meantime, we hired a cleaning service that provided a maid for 8 hours a day, one day a week, RM60.00 each time.
Then Suzana started sending SMSes from Indonesia. She wrote, “If Nyonya wants to hire a new maid, Suzana won’t mind.”
Days later, she sent another one, “Suzana miss Flame lah.” (Flame is our dear cocker spaniel dog)
After that, we discovered that Suzana had taken another job as a maid for a family in Indonesia. Mother was really upset to hear the news but such is life, so we went ahead and contracted another full-time maid from Indonesia.

Eeyos our new maid is the complete opposite of Suzana in many ways. Where Suzana is loud and boisterous, Eeyos is gentle and softspoken. Where Suzana is obstinate and argues with Mother, Eeyos is polite and eager to learn. The first week that Suzana worked for us, she pulled down everything in the house to rearrange them. Eeyos is careful not to overly disrupt our pattern of chaos as she wipe our shelves. The first month that Suzana worked for us, she cooked up a storm and offered many dishes of foods to our neighbours. Eeyos, when introduced to our neighbours, was polite but disinterested. Both Suzana and Eeyos maintain a high level of cleanliness and are utterly dedicated to their work.
But the more Eeyos worked, the more Mother thought of Suzana so one day, Mother picked up the phone and dialled her number in Indonesia. Over the phone, Suzana said, “Oh, I have every intention to return, my work here is just temporary,” and Mother said, “Come back anytime.”
That is why we are now expecting Suzana to return after Hari Raya in October. But, we’ve got dear Eeyos now whose contract with us is fixed for the next two years. I looked at Mother with my eyebrows raised and Mother said with guilty pleasure, “We will just have to figure out what to do with two full-time live-in maids in October.”
Then she added, “Daddy really likes Suzana.”

wow ! 2 live in full time maid! then your dear house gonna be sparking clean from Oct onwards! =)
Hah, we'll really have to figure out a solution.
Haha… wanted to blog abt this too. Frankly speaking, I'm also headache. No doubt that Susana is good but she is quite irresponsible in some extend (come and leave as she wishes to), if you do agree with me. However, Feng & I have the same consensus. We do not like maid to take care of baby as nobody is at home to supervise them. No matter how good they are, we still have some reserves towards them. I foresee there will be problems arise later when both starts to compare to each other.
Hmm… ya. This is a tough one. I also don’t know what to do myself. I hope we don’t let go of the new maid who needs the job.

Hi Rozita,
I am really sorry but Suzana have already found employment with my sister-in-law. A lot of others wanted to hire her as well as they know through my mom that she is a very diligent, hardworking and joyful maid to have.
