Goodbye, Michael
Recently, I have been able to discipline myself to go to bed early. Instead of staying up in front of the PC to read blog posts, I would stay up in bed to read a book. This have been going on for a few weeks until June 25th, 2009 when I unravelled a whole string of back-end work. On that day, I lingered a little longer in front of the PC and soon, 10:00pm became midnight, then 2:00am, 3:00am, 3:30am, 4:00am…
At about 4:30am, I logged onto my Twitter account.
That’s when I first received the news that Michael Jackson may have died of cardiac arrest. I had to pause for a while to take in the thought. Then, my friend Jerrick, twittered, “Jerrick thinks we shouldn’t believe the rumours. They managed to revive #michaeljackson before taking him to the hospital. He’s PRLY not dead yet!” and I felt relieved. Whew, so it was just rumors after all. Whew!
But not long after that, another friend forwarded a twitter by the LA Times City Desk. The message read, “Michael Jackson has died. City and LAPD sources have confirmed it for us.”
What a shock. Such horrifying news. Michael Jackson was only 50 years old.
…
Similar to the lost of Kero, it took a while to put out this post because it somehow felt too close and personal a wound. While I have not followed the life of Michael Jackson closely, I have seen him on screen enough times to feel engaged with him in person. There are many videos of his unsurpassable performances online and as I browsed through them today, I was most struck by the emotiveness of a young Michael in this song.
It is a song about a man who lost his wife in a divorce.
Michael Jackson rose to superstardom status at a very young age and one can say that his success is well-deserved. There is no doubt that Michael Jackson is incredibly hardworking, ambitious, intuitive and multi-talented. At one time, it felt as though Michael Jackson is invincible. In his latest album, HIStory, Michael Jackson even made himself seem like a god.

But the man is a human being and not a god. As powerful as he had made himself out to be, the real God in heaven has every power and great mercy to strike him dead at His perfect timing for Michael’s life. And while Jesus the holy man and God was resurrected three days after death, Michael Jackson, the human being, remains dead.
