Friendship is When Souls Are Knit Together

I miss those carefree days when I was utterly fascinated by every little thing that happened around here, and would blog about them. Things like how my Dutch Shepherd Dog enjoys having her cheek scratched.

I haven’t blogged about such mildly captivating thoughts for a long time and thought I would start again, one photo at a time.

This is photographic evidence that when you are born into a Hainanese family, you will not have a shortage of aunts and uncles who thrill at your every fart and burp. The Chinese have always said among themselves that among the many different clans and tribes of China, the Hainanese are the most close-knitr. As family, they are immensely defensive of their own members, as friends they always appreciate meeting another person whose family came from Hainan Island, China!

Speaking of close-knit, do you know what a knit is? A knit is when two loops of a thread are interlocked with each other…

In the Bible, it is written that King David, who took over the reign of ancient Israel from King Saul at around 1000 BCE, had such a strong friendship with Jonathan that it is described as “their souls are knit together”. They were best friends, confidantes, and each other’s defender when one is weak.

It is like the friendship between Jamal and Salim of Slumdog Millionaire.
Slumdog-Millionaire
In their childhood, Jamal and Salim survived the streets of Mumbai together. In their teenagehood, they made different choices and even betrayed each other. But in their adulthood, they came back together again when Salim realized that Jamal could win 1 million dollars in a legitimate way and get out of slum or gangster life forever. Salim decided to give up his own life to release Latika so that Jamal could have the good and perfect life.

Our family may be close-knit and I know I can always count on them, but it is truly rare for two friends from the same age group to have such strong friendship that their souls are knit together like David and Jonathan or Jamal and Salim.

I think my SIL is hoping for Ethan to have one such loyal friend in his life in a little brother. I truly believe it will enrich his life and I hope her wish comes true!

A friend loves at all times, a brother is born for adversity. – Proverbs 17:17
