Debate: If Ping-Pong is Sports, Cyber-Gaming should also be Sports

This afternoon, my friend tried to convince me that cyber-gaming should be an athletic sports. I say, why not? If a ridiculous game like ping-pong can be considered sports, computer gaming should be as well!

  • You might argue that computer gaming is fun.

But isn’t ping-pong fun? Isn’t basketball? Isn’t any other sports? The only sports I can think of that isn’t fun is running marathons, but then again, some people get a high from that.

How two men convinced us that their playing ping-pong is really sports

He Kexin, why I think she deserves a gold medal at Beijing Olympics 2008

How many Chinese citizens have traveled the world to sweep the medals in international sporting events? Any one who have done as well as He Kexin at the age of 14 is not just one among us. She is one in a billion.

At 14, the only time I saw life outside Malaysia was on annual family holidays which were fully paid for by Daddy. For Kexin, her trips abroad are fully paid for by her own sheer hard work.

You must watch this Youtube Video of Kexin at the uneven bars!

See Men Fly

You must think I am such a ditz. I had this chance to snap photos of cute, sweaty, young men battling each other.

Is it Safe to Cycle at East Coast Park?

Dear Mum,

I know you are worried whenever I cycle at East Coast Park.

Thanks for caring Mum, but see? East Coast Park is bright as day with lots of people around - camping, barbecuing, cycling, skating, jogging, dating.

I pedal on the smooth cycling track along the beach. The cold sea breeze and the waves crashing to shore gives me a sense of freedom and rhythm.

The end of the cycling track is a little quiet, but I’m here for only a few seconds before turning back.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about.

I Cycled from East Coast Park to Bedok Town and Think I’m Still Alive

Last weekend, I wanted to cycle at East Coast Park but Nic said it’s too dangerous to get there by bike while Lennie said I’ll never be able to finish all 20km. Hm!

Then, Nic offered to cycle the bicycle there for me while I drive there with Kero Khoo. What a sweet surprise.

We met at Bedok Jetty where Nic & Kero acted like long lost lovers. They went off to McCafe, I went off to Changi Beach.

This weekend, I wanted to cycle at East Coast Park again. Nic dropped me and the bicycle off at one end of ECP, I rode till the other end before heading home by myself.

Female Cyclist

Now that I’ve tried the route out, I don’t think it is dangerous at all. I didn’t need to get on the road, there’s a bumpy pedestrian walkway for cyclists to use.

There are tough bits though.

From the top of the pedestrian bridge. Which way\'s home again?

After crossing over this highway via a walkway above it, I need to go all the way down, even into a pedestrian underpass under this highway via a steep flight of stairs.

I’m going to hit the Publish button now. If this post appears on my blog, I didn’t die!

Shooting People is Fun!

It’s been a few years since I’ve pointed a gun at someone and shot him down. I remember traveling to a secluded jungle where we divided ourselves into teams. It got a little scary because one guy on the other team came fully equipped.

He pulled on his black Empire 2008 Contact SE Gloves and my heart skipped a beat.

He pulled on his blue Smart Parts Defender Jersey, my heart skipped another beat.

He pulled on his chest protector, elbow knee pad, neck protector, my heart raced like a crazy horse!

The only thing he didn’t come with was his own US ARMY Alpha Black Basic Tippmann 98 Custom Gun. Like the rest of us, he used the cheap paintball guns that the organizer had provide.

I’ve never seen all these equipment sold anywhere before, he told me he bought them online. You can find Tippmann, Spyder, Smart Parts, Dye, Empire, Draxxus paintball gear plus many more brands on the Ultimate Paintball site. Top selling guns are Tippmann A-5, Tippmann 98 Custom, Smart Parts Ion and Spyder Pilot ACS.

After the game, I came home with a few bruises on the widest part of my body - my butt! I don’t remember if we won, but I must confess having Nic on my team was a greater asset that having all the gears that this guy brought. You see, Nic was the only one among us who ever received sniper training thanks to the compulsory National Service in his country, Singapore.

Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. tickets

A few weeks ago when I was in Chiang Mai, I witnessed a catfight between two girls. I was passing by a boutique and saw a crowd outside the shop. Inside the shop, a girl was trying to punch and scratch the saleslady there. Two other salesladies were around but instead of helping their colleague, they scolded her. I wonder what she did to create so much anger.

I noticed there was a guy there too, even he was on the side of the angry woman. The saleslady ran from them, the crowd dispersed.

Fights are just so fascinating, aren’t they? Just last May, one of the most successful boxing match, “De La Hoya vs. Mayweather: The World Awaits”, raked in USD120million.

A rematch have been scheduled in September. Even though it is only February, the Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. tickets are already on sale.

Taking $1,000,000 from Dato’ Tony Fernandes

On 30th January, Dato’ Tony Fernandes came to Singapore. He couldn’t fly in through Air Asia though. He was two days too early. The new Malaysia-Singapore route only starts February 1st.

Anyway, Dato’ came to Singapore is to give away money to become the chairman of Singapore Slingers. You know how Air Asia sponsors the best football team in the EPL - Manchester United? Air Asia also sponsors the best basketball team in the NBL, the Singapore Slingers.

During the game, Dato’ personally gave away free tickets to fly to Gold Coast, Phuket, and Kuala Lumpur to any one from the audience who can throw the ball into the basket.

Oops, haha. No comments.

After the game, we - Dato’ Tony, Precious & Geekonomics were like best buddies. *Ahem*

Next game, Dato’ Tony will be here again to give away $1,000,000.

Will it be like taking candy from a sleeping baby?

I’ve changed my name

I took a long time to think of a new name for myself. I wanted a name that captures my Asian heritage, but I didn’t want it to be too Asian that westerners will never be able to pronounce it right.

After a long time of thinking it through, this is what I came up with. Hope you are willing to accept me with my new name,

Christmas Dinner with Tom Hanks and wifey

They had just flown in from Texas. On Christmas day, we were invited for a dinner together in the city.

What a lovely couple! Since they came from Texas, I joked that they get around on horseback and wear broad-brimmed hats at home, just like the cowboys in old western movies.

They were so pleasant, they didn’t even retaliate with jokes about us living among Orang Utans in trees. Sigh…

All through dinner and dessert, the conversation never stopped flowing. I felt we really connected, you know?

I wish I could follow them back to U.S. We’ll get National Finals Rodeo tickets and lift up the Texan reputation
The National Finals Rodeo is THE event of the year at Las Vegas. At its end, eight world champions will be crowned in the following seven events:

  • Bareback riding
  • Steer wrestling
  • Team roping
  • Saddle bronc riding
  • Tie-down roping
  • Bull riding
  • Barrel racing, the only event exclusive to women

May be I can convince his wife, Mindy, to compete in the barrel racing. Yee-har!
