Krisandro thinks I’m aggressive. I have no idea why :(

On May 9th 2008, Krisandro watched two episodes of Blogger’s Treats and posted his review on his blog.

His exact comment about me?

“In episode 2, Hillary was much more aggressive…”

I thought Krisandro must be joking since no one has ever said I’m an aggressive woman before. So I left a fun reply,

“Who say I agressive hur?” to which he replied,

“*smiles sheepishly*”

Smiles sheepishly? Now I’m not sure if he was joking or serious. If he really meant what he said, Krisandro is dead wrong.

Speaking of dead, on another note, I found an old photo of me chopping up a dead wild boar for dinner.

This Penan warrior had freshly hunted, killed, slaughtered and skinned this boar for me.

Bloody delicious! *droolz*

What You Shouldn’t Eat on Your First Date

I’ve been coughing mildly (I’m a dainty lady) for almost a month now so to kill all the germs once and for all, this is what my mum made.

French bread slathered with thick layers of garlic!

This food reminds me of an ad for McDonald’s I saw when I was in Uni.

A geeky teenage boy was driving a sweet teenage girl out for their first date. You could tell he was jittery, he probably wasn’t sure how to break the ice, they were both really quiet in the car.

Then they got to the McDonald’s drive-thru. He nervously asked what she’d like to have. She calmly replied, “Cheeseburger, No Onions,” and looked at him meaningfully.

His eyes almost fell out of its sockets. His face widened into the brightest smile you’ve ever seen, it was so sweet. Then he ordered, “2 Cheeseburgers, No Onions”, for both of them. Sighhh…

Even when he was driving out of the drive-thru, he still had this silly grin on his face. Then the McDonald’s jingle played, with the tagline, “We love to make you smile.”

Thank goodness Nic and I have been together for some time so I could devour all the onions and garlic anytime I like.

Lunch Alone

The youngest partner that Deloitte Consulting ever had, Keith Ferazzi, wrote a book on why we should never eat lunch alone. All of a sudden, executives all over the world are scrambling for lunch partners.

I’m not even the sort who think too much about my lunch. Lunch tends to happen at the hour when I’ve got my energy revved up for work. Lunch tends to interrupt the momentum. I tend to gobble down my lunch inappreciatively within minutes and seconds.

After hearing what Keith said though, I took a good long look at my lunch. All of a sudden, the bowl of fish ball noodles look so tiny and insignificant. Or perhaps the bowl is reflecting my own emotions.

This peer pressure from Keith Ferazzi is really starting to annoy me.

Why I Love My Brunch

Most people who prefer eating at home choose to do so because it is healthier. For me, I have two additional reasons. The food I get at home is a lot more delicious and a lot more beautifully presented. For instance, check out this Nasi Goreng Kampung I’m having right now.

Loaded with green veggies and tomatoes, it makes me feel confident of my physical health.

Fried with lots eggs and chili padi, it is exactly the taste I prefer.

But most of all, I love its bright colors which makes me a joyful bruncher. :)

I don’t need to travel far and wide to get the best meals in the world. I don’t need to stay in hotels and accommodation that serve lavish meals.
I don’t need the best hotels in Berlin, or cheapest hotels in Prague, or Barcelona Spain hotels, or Hotels in Amsterdam. I get my favorite food, the moment I wake up, right here at home.

What’s for your dinner?

Early this morning, I stepped foot on Malaysian soil again. After eight days of shivering at down to -3oC weather in HangZhou, HuangShan and Suzhou, I felt so relieved to be back again.

The holiday was amazing, I have so much to share with you. But for now, I need to nurse a very red nose and an itchy throat back to health.

So what else but chicken soup with lots of green veggies for dinner. What are you having? Make me envious!

Abalone & Scallop Pizza

Not your every day pizza. This one is home baked by a friend of my mother.

The pea looks a bit dehydrated, doesn’t it? But let’s not judge the pea by its cover skin.

I thought the abalone will be overly chewy after baking but it wasn’t. I love the creamy cheese sauce that coated it. It balanced out the sour tomato paste perfectly. Neither does it drown out the taste of the exotic ingredients.

How many women does it take to make kaya?

In my home, six. One to teach. One to learn. Four to observe it while it cooks.

I learned that the hardest part about making kaya is the stirring. It burns too easily. You need strong arms to scrape the bottom of the pot non-stop for forty-five minutes.

There are only five ingredients. Cream from 3 coconuts’ milk. One bunch of screwpine leaves. 140g sugar. 20 stirred and sifted raw eggs. Six beautiful ladies.

If you can get six women together too, perhaps you will succeed at making.

Precious eats Roti Kiap

As I blog and reminisce about my breakfast at the Old Town White Coffee cafe at East Coast Park, I couldn’t help drooling onto my keyboard. To make matters worse, there’s the delicious smell of fresh home baked bread wafting out of the kitchen.

So what could I do, but make my own?

Teh Si, with warm fluffy Roti, with fresh home cooked Pandan Kaya.

Jealous? Ehehehe!

What makes me melt

Are you one of those who when sitting in an office cubicle, notice every thing else that’s going on outside the cubicle? Lol, I have to admit, I’m definitely like that.

Just today, I was sitting quietly in the study, apparently doing my work, not disturbing any one, when I heard that the Precious Blockbuster Home Renovation is starting soon.

A few hours later, I was still sitting quietly in the study, apparently doing my work, not disturbing any one, when my nose started twitching to the delicious fragrance of fresh home baked bread.

I tried to ignore it, continued to type away at 52 words per minute, when I couldn’t take it any longer.

I flung the door wide open, marched into the kitchen, saw the most captivating treasure.

My knees crumbled.
