Making A Grand Entrance

The good thing about my cousin’s MPV is that we could step out of the car all at once to make a grand entrance.

When we arrived, flashes from various cameras went off from various directions.

For a few seconds we were blinded.

I suppose even though we were not the V.VIP for the night, we were still pretty important.

Had I been the camera shy type, I would have wanted to hide behind thick wooden blinds. But as you can tell from this photograph, most of us feel completely natural in front of the camera.

The only thing missing was the red carpet and the exotic escort to open our car doors for us.

My Extravagant Hairdo

You can tell how much I love my cousin by what I willingly wore on my head to the wedding.

The sixteen-year-old girl is very keen on beauty and style so she became my stylist for the big day.

It is the pouffest thing I have ever seen, since Elvis Presley’s curry puff hairdo.

This is the beta version. It looked more normal, but we couldn’t find the right clips to accessorize it.

This was what we ended with. What do you think?

The American Heritage Dictionary says a pouf (pōōf) is a woman’s hairstyle popular in the 18th century, characterized by high rolled puffs.

I bet it won’t come back in style until the 30th century.

Meanwhile, for the next 50 years, every one who pulls out my cousin’s wedding album will get to laugh at me.

Bedding The Bride

Congratulations Yong Jie! My cousin sister is officially married! Her surname is changing right before my eyes!

This photo of us was snapped in front of her brand new marriage bed.

One Problem We Will Never Experience In Singapore

Soaking wet newspaper on the front porch! I wasn’t affected since I read my news online. But my poor mother…

I guess there is something good about living in a high-rise after all. But I still want my landed bungalow.

The Honest Sales Girl

Some time ago, Sheylara (http://sheylara.com) mentioned the type of salesgirls she discovered while shopping in Malaysia. There’s the Stalker, Snob, Stylist, Salesman and Student.

Today, I’m adding to her list, The Honest Salesgirl.

Some time ago, I approached a dressmaker in Melaka. She didn’t like the design that I wanted.

She said, “You can’t wear this, you have such a big tummy!”

I was shocked.

“No, I don’t!”

“Yes, you do,” she said. Then she poked my belly with her finger to prove it.

Of course my flesh bounced back! Whose wouldn’t?! Omigosh…

Yesterday, I tried on this dress at a lovely boutique…

The sales girl took one look at me and said,

“You know what’s the problem? You need a push up.”

I am stumped. I don’t know what to say.

I think I need a lawyer to go shopping with me!

What I’m Wearing For The Wedding

My elder cousin sister who taught me how to fry wild bugs over a self-built fire stove and swim naked in the river is getting married this weekend!

It is such a big event for our family. Months ago, I have already decided what to wear.

It is not a new dress but I’ve worn it before with amazing response from the crowd.

The picture? Available at the cheerleader’s blog.

Confiscated At Customs

Like any caring mother, each time that I travel to Singapore, mine will load me up with food glorious food.

I used to have to carry four bags whenever I make the journey - one trolley bag, one backpack, one hand bag, and one shoulder carry-on.

A few weeks ago, my adventuresome mother even tried to stuff in two chickens.

Unfortunately, they were discovered when they went through the x-ray machine.

It was quite a traumatic experience.

So from now on, I establish a new rule. I will carry only one handbag, and one backpack. Nothing less, and nothing more.

And look ma,

No space for chickens!

Note to Mama:

This is not a complain about you. Don’t worry, I am not contemplating a nursing home, although wouldn’t you enjoy a resort with daily hi-tea, mah jong and yoga?
If YOU are contemplating, the Bettercaring website will help you look at the care options available so that you can arrange the right kind of care, read daily care news and views, and receive tips from care experts. There is also a community forum that allows others to discuss their own experiences within the care system.

When Precious Roars, The Whole Earth Trembles And Shakes

So The Runaway Geek caught a photo of the mysterious Precious and publicized it as Precious Roarrring!
Good try dearie but you sure haven’t seen what it looks like when Precious is really rip-roariously roaring away. This video is a small glimpse into my world.

Are you scared yet?

Breakfast At The Riverside Kopi Tiam. Mmmm-Mmm!

This Kopi Tiam next to the old cinema is one of my favorite places to enjoy a good scrumptious breakfast in Melaka.

When I get a chance to come here, I always order my favorite - Kaya Toast and Soft-Boiled Eggs.

I love food that is served near a good view. The reason I love watching Nigella Lawson’s Forever Summer and Mark Gardner & Ben O’Donoghue’s Surfing The Menu is partly because of the cooking, mostly because of the views!

Since I can’t be sampling wine and cheeses in a vineyard along Margaret River in Perth, Australia, this Kopitiam in Melaka the next best place.

It is breezy enough here for me to have wind-swept hair.

My coffee!! Kopi Oh, Tze Puei!

The eggs are bowl-slurping-ly yummy! The Kaya Toast is better than Yakun’s but could be better. I suggest you keep your eyes on the view while crunching to distract yourself from its mediocrity.

You know what I realized? This is one of the few eateries that haven’t put up a huge projector screen or plasma TV mounted high up on TV bracket to screen football or cantonese soap operas. No wonder it is so tranquil here.

I think Plasma TV wall mounts are good for the bedroom or the entertainment room. Just not for dining when conversations should take lead. Get what I mean?

The Mad Techies’ Dinner Party

Last weekend, Nic and I enjoyed a fun time at the Alpsoft 5th Anniversary Dinner.

Nic in an Alpsoft shirt.

These are the smart, tech-savvy folks who work at Alpsoft. It was a good idea to host them at the HomeTeam NS because the restaurant is adjoining a karaoke lounge, a cyber cafe, a bowling alley, a swimming pool, it’s all there.

Nobody stripped down to Speedos for a swim though. Some were challenged for a game of Counter-Strike in which Nic whipped them royally.

Geek prizes were given away, including a PSP2. But Nic and I didn’t win any.

This is the team that services DBS bank.

Well, they may be the real geeks, but when it comes to setting up blogs with shopping cart software, I’m still the expert. Teehee!

I like Ashop Commerce because it is a turn-key solution. Geek wannabes like me will just need to slot in the key, turn the ignition, and the engine will be started.

With Ashop, any one can build an online store capable of competing with powerful sites for a low monthly fee. Accept credit cards in real-time, customize the design, update content quickly and easily all by yourself within hours!

If you’re not comfortable until you’ve given it a try, there is a demo store for you to test drive.
